International Women in Engineering Day 2022

At Nowi, we are proud to have a diverse team of highly-skilled individuals who help us on our mission of ensuring a sustainable future of electronics. This International Women In Engineering Day, we’d like you to meet Nourane and Samaneh, two engineers part of our IC design team, instrumental in developing our technology.

Nourane Tawfik - Layout Engineer

Why did you choose the field of engineering?

I am fascinated by the concept of innovating step-by-step processes to overcome issues people face, and to come up with pragmatic solutions to make the world better.

What is so interesting about your job?

what I love about IC layout design is the relative simplicity of its concepts yet it has a lot of room for creativity. It’s about finding the right balance between different techniques to achieving the specifications set by the circuit designers.

Do you have any advice for other women in technology?
My advice for women in technology is: persistence is one of the keys to reach your goals.

Samaneh Babayan - Analog IC Design Engineer
Why did you choose the field of engineering?
My father and some of my uncles used to be engineers and they encouraged me to learn about electronics from a young age. I really enjoy the design work in engineering and the opportunity to see the projects come to life.

What is so interesting about the field of energy harvesting?
Designing a chip with combination of energy harvesting is very beneficial for nature as it provides a means of powering electronics using natural resources, reducing the needs for frequent battery replacements, and lowering the volume of raw materials being mined because rechargeable batteries have a longer lifespan.

Do you have any advice for other women in technology?
Happily, the number of women in Tech industries is growing each year. Do not underestimate your capabilities. Technology is always changing so keep learning new things and love sharing that with others. Do not let self-doubt get in your way, each year by gaining more experience, you will become more confident in your skills, so never let doubts affect your work. Speak up and try to communicate clearly. Collaborate with colleagues and enjoy working on projects which might make the world a better place to live.
